21/07/2002 - Entry #16

Sorry for not updating in a while. I've been busy working on the Badlands model. I've finally finished the model itself, though, meaning all I have left to do is paint it (or 'skin' it, as they say in the industry. *shrug*).

To explain the process (simply because I have nothing else to talk about), the model looks like this:

Meh, it obviously looks incredibly boring right now, and HUGELY unimpressive, but it doesn't have any colour. To colour it, you have to unwrap the whole thing as a 2D image, instead of a 3D one. When you do that, it looks like this:

Each grey section corresponds to a section of the model shown above. When you paint onto the grey areas, whatever you paint appears on the model. Hopefully that makes sense. So now my only remaining task is to paint shit loads of detail onto the 2D picture, and thus make the colours and detail appear on the model. I've never done this before in my life, so we'll see how well it goes. It could be a total disaster, for all I know. I'm pretty new to all of this, and the mistakes are cropping up all over the place. Still, wish me luck. I'll put up the results whenever I get finished.

Eh, that'll do. Sorry, I'm rather drunk and fairly down, and not really in the mood to waffle on like usual. I'm off to bed. G'night.
