1/11/2002 - Entry #38

Well, I hope everyone had an enjoyable Hallowe'en (call it by its name!) Myself, I just stayed in bed until everyone had lost interest. A plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a fox.

Just a short update, for now. I found an incredible article on Wired.com a few days ago, which details the contents of Saddam Hussein's e-mail inbox. Sufficient to say, if you ever doubted that the world was full of corrupt, unscrupulous, stupid and insane people, you really shouldn't.

I'm not even sure which parts of the article I should be more shocked about. First of all, I was amazed that Saddam Hussein's e-mail account would be so easily hacked. I genuinely think that even *I* have better security than he does, and that's absurd. But that didn't compare to half the other revelations. Which is the most worrying aspect of an Austrian citizen e-mailing Saddam Hussein to tell him he's a good shot, and willing to fight America? The willingness? The shooting ability? Or simply the fact that's fucking e-mailing Saddam Hussein and inviting himself over? Although I do love the line "you need only send a ticket." Haha. Meet me at the airport, yeah? Wicked.

Probably the most disgraceful (and chilling) information is that of the sheer number of companies contacting Saddam. The Californian wireless technology firm with the power to irradiate all living creatures for miles is almost amusingly scary. It seems farfetched, to me, but I know nothing of this sort of thing. If it's true, then how crazed is that? Some mentalist Californian company selling fiery doom to Iraqi dictators, away from prying eyes? Yay! Still, we can feel reassured by the CEO's response, and I quote: "No way would we ever give the weapon-of-mass-destruction technology to Mr. Hussein."

I was genuinely shocked that so many companies would be so unashamedly backhanded and conniving, although I guess I shouldn't have been. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Capitalism just does not work! (Sorry, S_O!) That, and everyone is a scumbag. I guess that's probably the bigger factor.

Anyway, deviating completely from that, I want to give the official All-One-Word stamp of approval to Derren Brown's mind control. For anyone out there with access to E4, I heartily recommend you watch it on Saturday night. Derren Brown Mind Control Night, starting at 10pm on E4. Watch it! Scariest man in the world.

Ehhhh, that's all.
